We had been thinking about this trip for a few years and despite some concerns, finally booked flights from Melbourne, Australia. From our first contact with California Motor Cycle Adventures at the airport I was very impressed. The way the bikes were presented and the help they gave planning the trip was fantastic. Within a couple of hours of picking up the bikes any concerns were completly forgotten. The route they helped plan was fantasic. Great roads with awesome scenery and friendly people everywhere we went. All this with a geat USD/AUD exchange rate!! I'm already planning a return trip.

Here's my video of my October 2011 ride on Hwy 120, Hwy 4, Hwy 89. Hwy 89 between Hwy 4 and Hwy 395 is the number one rated road by Destination Highways for northern California. [Be careful with the volume, wind noise on this video is loud.]

Honest Appaisal: Airport pick up and drop off service good, Ilene friendly if a little overly fussy during bike handover. Couldn't get the bike I wanted but I did book very late. A deal was done on the price of a Black Heritage Softail as I couldn't get the $99 deal on the Electra Glide. Enjoyable 4 days exploring the mountains between CA1 and US101 North of San Franciso. Great roads spoilt only by the limitations of a Harley. If you're going for the PCH and don't already own a Harley, hire a Beemer or a Pan, you'll enjoy it so much more. I went in September, very strange, only place I know that you go anywhere but the beach to get a sun tan. Permenant fog on the coast, clear and 100 degrees inland. I will return and soon.

My partner and I hired a pair of Softail Classics for a couple of weeks. We pulled nearly three thousand miles on them, going up along the awesome Highway One, east through the mountains in the north of California, down through Yosemite, Death Valley, Las Vegas, and onward into Arizona to see the Grand Canyon, before rounding back through the Mojave desert, LA and back up the coastal highway.
The bikes ran smooth as silk, and were (at least before the bugs got to them) in immacuate condition. There was one brief moment at in Las Vegas, where, in a 120F+ heatwave, and for lack of an oil cooler, our two-wheeled troopers suffered a bit of heatstroke. Nothing a few hours in the shade couldn't fix. Given all the desert riding we put them through, we were still impressed with how they held up - a testament to excellent servicing and maintenance.
The dealership was friendly and generous. They managed to accommodate our needs for hire despite the short notice. They collected us from the heart of San Francisco at the start of our trip, and that in spite of the nightmare traffic! They brought us to the airport hotel for our departure. They were extremely well-versed in the routes and offered us some excellent advice on places to go given our time and travel budget: and in fact it was their suggestion to take to the mountain routes in the north of the state: truly the ride of our lives!
We will definitely be coming back to these guys again. Thanks for a brilliant experience!

Hiring a Bike from Scott and Ilene was hassle free, and they were a pleasure to deal with. We got to test ther service to full potential when we had a mechanical fault.(Throught no fault of theirs)This was a warranty issue. Scott sorted everything from organizing me a replacment bike of my choice, then delivering a new bike to Las Vegas for us to continue our tour which consisted in total of 7000 miles.

Greg and I turned 50 this year and to celebrate reaching this milestone we said goodbye to our families for a month to tour the open roads in the USA. I rented a 2010 Street Glide and Greg rented a 2011 Road King from California Motorcycle Adventures.Our trip included a 5 day stop at Sturgis, a visit to the Harley Museum at Millwaulkee, the Indianapolis Racetrack, Route 66, Las Vegas, Death Valley, Yosemite National Park and of course Hollister. We travelled over 6000 miles, rode through 18 states and the bikes never let us down. We were impressed on how well the bikes were prepared for our trip. We stopped for a 5000 mile service at Grand Canyon Harley and this was taken care of straight away by a quick phone call to Scott and Ilene to authorise this.
We have no hesitation in recommending California Motorcycle Rentals and want to thank both Scott and Ilene for making our trip of a lifetime a great experience.

The time we were able to spend riding through Northern California was simply overwhelming. Riding through this magnificent landscape on small curvy roads through vine yards, over the hills and along the Pacific Ocean with a nice fresh sea breeze, we just had such a blast. It was a feeling of freedom, relaxation and enjoyment, all at the same time. Wherever we showed up, we had all eyes on us due to our awesome Harley Davidsons. We had been dreaming about doing a ride like this for the longest time, and can only highly recommend renting from California Motorcycle Adventures. I flew in from Texas and met my brothers from the east coast for a five day ride. We were met at the airport on time and driven to the bikes, we rented four, they were all in good repair newer bikes and we rode over a thousand miles with no trouble. Friendly staff got us helmets and phone numbers to call should we have any trouble. On our last day we ended up being over an hour late, past closing time, and they waited for us to get back and took us to our hotel and did so cheerfully. This is a first rate operation and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to rent a bike. This was at least a thousand times better than any experience I've had at a Harley Dealership renting a bike, next time Im in the area I will be a repeat customer for sure!!!

I wish everything I did in business could go as smoothly as my experience with these folks. I rented a 2008 Ultra Classic Harley for five days for my four year wedding anniversary, wanting to give my wife( and myself) a wonderful memory. Scott and his people did not disappoint. Being the "doubting Thomas" that I am, always waiting for the other shoe to drop, or the "what's the catch?" moment to arrive; it never did. From the first phone call to the last handshake, everything was what I was told it would be. No B.S. They picked me up at the train station when they said they would. The bike was everything that it was advertised to be. The money part went the way they said it would and when I called in on day four(the original agreed return day)still 500 miles out to ask for another day and tell 'em I had already put 1,800 miles on their bike, they didn't blink an eye. Great experience!! Good people. Made this old ironworker very happy

If you are planning on renting a motorcycle and travelling around California, I highly recommend California Motorcycle Adventures. Having been burned before by another company it was a pleasure to deal with Scott, Ilene and all the staff at CMA. We got the bikes we reserved: 4 Harleys and a Honda ST1300, all ready to go upon our arrival.The whole experience went smoothly for the next week. Thanks again Ilene for the help in trip planning. When we experienced a flat tire Scott drove out with a brand new replacement bike so that we could continue on our trip.What a pleasure to do business with you. The bikes (BMWs) were as advertised and the service was good. We rent every year and have had some bad experiences, but not this time. Friendly staff and clean bikes.

Rented a Ultra Glide to tour around California for my 50th birthday and what a way to celebrate a birthday, fantastic.My girlfriend Ang and I had a great time and we met some fantastic people, genuine people. We would like to thank the whole team of California Motorcycle Adventures. Our Harleys were nicely prepared and ready to go when we arrived at the station. No problems at all returning the bikes on a Sunday late afternoon. We got some nice suggestions which roads to take, the road maps could be more accurate but this is something you can't improve. I am sure that we will see each other again when there is another opportunity for a Harley weekend in Silicon Valley.

We picked up the two ST1300s on a fine morning in February, and once Scott was happy we could handle RHD bikes, we set off on a great 4 days down the Big Sur coast, taking in Carmel, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Pismo Beach, as far as Santa Barbara, which was closed at that time of year. Then a great road, the I33(the best I've ridden) up through the mountains and back via James Dean's junction. Yes we had a spot of very cold, very wet riding, but the bikes were flawless and comfortable, and when the sun shone, it was a magical experience for a couple of Brits. We knocked off around 1000 miles, and without question would do it again. One thing about February, you can haggle some great deals at the top hotels, or travelodge for $20 each!
