Easter Adventure on a Road King through
Las Vegas, Death Valley, Valley of Fire and more.
by Peter and Dawn Cawthorne - March 2010
It is hard to put into a few words the feelings we have about the holiday we had this year after hiring a Harley Davidson Road King from California Motorcycle Adventures. It was challenging, exciting, great fun and ultimately, truly unforgettable.
Although Peter had not ridden a motorbike like the Harley before, Scott was confident that he would take to it like a duck to water! Which was just as well he did as; unfortunately, the famous Californian sunshine did not show its self on the first day! We were glad we had decided to pack our waterproofs
Fortunately the weather improved dramatically and the rest of the holiday passed in a blaze of beautiful sunshine.
The itinerary that Ilene had put together for us was superb, the choice of roads and timings between different locations were spot on and without them, we are quite sure that we would have missed some wonderful riding.
It is difficult to single out anywhere that stands out as being the highlight of the holiday, every day brought something new and often unexpected. Randolph Hearst Castle is definitely worth a visit, as was the old miners’ town of Oatman on Route 66.
Las Vegas was a cheesy and kitsch as we expected and we stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel which added to the experience! Death Valley was truly stunning and we probably saw it at its most colourful as the valleys were awash with a vast carpet of flowers. The Valley of Fire Rock formations and pyroglyphs were fascinating.

Throughout our trip we were met with nothing but kindness and a warm welcome. All the places we stayed were interesting and the routes we took were fascinating. My husband was delighted with the bike and it didn’t fail us once. Scott’s laid back approach helped put us at ease and the whole holiday went like clockwork. I lost count of the wonderful wildlife and birds we saw and we still find it hard to comprehend that we did so much and saw so many different places in what was really a very short space of time. Our only regret was that the holiday finished too quickly and there was still so much to do, however, that sounds like the ideal excuse to come back again!

To Scott, Ilene and all at California Motorcycle Adventures; thank you for a truly stunning holiday and we look forward to our return.
Very Best Wishes from Peter and Dawn Cawthorne
